Commonalities Among the Strange Religions

I close this chapter by noting certain commonalities in these religious groups mentioned in Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol. Consider:

• All of them reject the Bible as a final authority.

• All of them typically interpret the Bible esoterically, seeking hidden meanings in the pages of Scripture.

• All of them hold to radical redefinitions of the nature of God, the person of Jesus Christ, and how human beings become saved.

• All of them are brimming with mysticism and occultism.

Discerning Christians therefore categorize these groups not as vehicles for ancient truth but rather vehicles for the lies of Satan. In truth, each of these religious groups transmit what Scripture calls doctrines of demons (see 1 Timothy 4:1).
